Reflection Questions:

Tom discusses the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset.

Do you consider yourself someone who functions with a fixed or growth mindset?

I identify as a person with a growth mindset. While some individuals may have a baseline mindset from birth, it is essential to believe in oneself to improve and achieve success. Holding a fixed mindset regarding tasks one is not immediately good at can make learning new skills even more challenging.

Do you think it will be easier to progress in nursing school and practice with a fixed mindset, a growth mindset, or a combination of both? Why?

I believe it will be easier to advance in nursing school with a growth mindset. Nursing school is inherently challenging, and as the video mentioned, individuals with a fixed mindset tend to avoid difficult tasks to prevent failure. This avoidance makes progression within the nursing profession, and even functioning in it, more difficult. Engaging in challenges stimulates the brain to develop new problem-solving approaches. Since not every situation in life is straightforward, having a growth mindset makes tough days more manageable.
