  • Treat sudden neurological deficits as possible stroke.

  • Distinguish acute, fluctuating delirium from gradual cognitive decline.

  • Monitor patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome for respiratory compromise.

  • Recognize the fatigable weakness associated with myasthenia gravis.

  • Identify meningitis and encephalitis as potentially life-threatening infections.
